Brave

Every once in a while, somewhere between pop hits about dancing and love, a different kind of song hits the radio waves. A song that is more than just a catchy melody, a song that tries to make a statement, a song that is equal parts medium and message.

“Brave,” originally by Sara Bareilles and Jack Antonoff (the guitarist of Fun.), is one of those songs. Many of us know that music can be a safe haven for anybody who is afraid to be him or herself, so we chose to sing this song in support of all those who’ve ever been bullied or pressured into not saying and being who they really are.

We also had a lot of fun making this video, playing on the fact that imitation of instruments is fairly common in contemporary a cappella music. Many of us actually play the instruments we’re using in the video!
We filmed at the summit of Bear Mountain overlooking the majestic Hudson Valley, and at various Sing For Hope pianos throughout New York City.

Don’t forget to grab the track on iTunes or CDBaby and to share the video with your friends, Facebook or otherwise!

Hi there! I just wanted to let you know that I really love to listen to ya’ll (pardon my Texan) sing. I am not Jewish, but rather Natsarim, and I celebrate His Feast days and Shabbat, and found your music because of a search for holiday songs, and stumbled upon Candlelight, and have been hooked ever since. My new favorite is Yavo, although, I am not sure of all the words [would love an English written lyrics of this... hint hint, lol ;-) ], it is great to try and learn the Hebrew words. Thank you for sharing your talent with us, and you will be in my prayers for success in all you do. Shalom!

Guys this was amazing!!! AMAZING!!! I love all your music and videos!! Everything shows your talent and you are all incredible! I love the way that in Brave you used people who don’t usually get a chance to have solos and Yonatan and Meir, you did great! I think there are still some Maccabeats who don’t get a chance to have solos as much as some others and I want my fave Maccabeat, Mordy Prus, to have a solo in the next video please! He is soooo good but we never get to hear him! It was so good to see Nachum and Noey back too, they also ROCK!!! Great to have you back guys! Shana Tova Maccabeats!

I loved this song! It’s rare to find a good, catchy pop song that isn’t about love and romance. You seem to find them all though! I love you guys!

This song is so awesome that my four-year-old, who can hardly say his ABC’s, belts out the lyrics all day, every day. My kids and I are huge Maccabeats fans in general but I just have to give a shout-out to the second lead on this song – your voice must be professionally trained, that range is amazing. Keep the hits coming!
